The Fight Between the Lean and Fat
The Fight Between the Lean and Fat c.1610-1620; A carnival-esque battle between 'Fat' and 'Lean', a representation of the fight between gluttony (sin) and sobriety (virtue). Published by Boetius Adamsz Bolswert (c.1580-1633), engrave by his brother Schelte a Bolswert (1586–1659). The verses in Latin and Dutch along the bottom were written by Johannes Semmius and relate to the night of which the Carnival begins, the battlefield of the gluttonous and the sober, and how virtue and sin are always mutual enemies. The print here is in poor condition and has a piece missing from the right. Image size: 27cm high x 39.5cm.

An etching by Paolo Fidanza (1731 – 1785), of the head of Andrea Navagero (1483-1529), a detail from Raphael's 'Portrait of Andrea Navagero and Agostino Beazzano' (1516) now in the Galleria Doria Pamphili, Rome. Published in 'Recueil de têtes choisies de personnages illustres dans les lettres et dans les armes éxactement dessinées et gravées de la grandeur des originaux par Paul Fidanza', Rome 1785, 1. The painting - now universally accepted as Raphael's original - has long been regarded as a high quality copy of the original, formerly thought to have gone lost. The legend below image credits Raphael with the design of the composition, and identifies the sitter as the law professor Bartolo da Sassoferrato (1313-57). Plate size: 42.5cm high x 30cm.

The Oxford Almanack for The Year of Our Lord God MDCCLXIII
The image celebrates the British victories in America at the conclusion of the French & Indian (Seven Years) War, there are figures of Roman gods around a globe (that shows the north eastern Coast of America and the Caribbean) pointing to North America, watched by George III in Roman dress. An allegorical image of America at the top, with a map of North America immediately behind the winged angel. When George III came to the throne in 1760 he inherited Britain's participation in the Seven Years' War. An angel in the centre foreground holds a list of the British actions in 1761, engraved by J.Miller in Oxford in 1763. Overall size: 37.5cm high x 46cm.

Agostino Veneziano (1490 – 1450)
Agostino Veneziano ("Venetian Agostino"), whose real name was Agostino de' Musi (c. 1490 – c. 1540), was an important and prolific Italian engraver of the Renaissance. This etching on watermarked lined paper monogrammed in the plate is possibly of the god Sol riding chariot in the heavens above a city with man in the foreground holding a bunch of flowers in one hand and a water jug in the other. Overall Size: 18.7cm high x 14cm.

Isaac Blessing Jacob
Isaac blessing Jacob (Genesis 27); a young shepherd boy bowing before an old man, who sits at a table on which is a decorated pot, plate and knife, and points upwards, taking the boy's hand, while an old woman looks on, leaning in from right; after Ribera; Mezzotint scratched letter proof. The second state describes the subject as Isaac blessing Jacob, and refers to the painting in the collection of the Earl of Chesterfield to whom the print is dedicated. The painting is not mentioned in the catalogue raisonné of Ribera's works by Nicola Spinosa; but the print is after a painting (with the composition in reverse) attributed to Giovanni Battista Langetti in the Art Gallery of Ontario, or one very similar to it.
